Oats Dumplings

Oats Dumplings are a healthy and flavorful twist on traditional dumplings, offering a nutritious option for soups, stews, or even as a standalone side dish. Made with oats and whole wheat flour, these dumplings provide added fiber and nutrients while maintaining a soft and tender texture. With the option to customize them with herbs or spices, oats dumplings are perfect for adding a wholesome touch to your favorite comfort foods. Whether you're looking for a hearty addition to a warm soup or a healthier dumpling alternative, oats dumplings are an easy and satisfying choice!

Ingredients:

1 cup oats (quick oats or rolled oats)
1 cup whole wheat flour or all-purpose flour
½ tsp baking powder
½ tsp salt
2 tbsp butter or olive oil
¼ cup milk (or more, as needed)
1 egg (optional, for added richness)
1 tsp herbs of choice (like parsley, thyme, or chives) – optional

Instructions:

Prepare the Dry Ingredients:

In a large mixing bowl, combine oats, flour, baking powder, and salt. If you’re using herbs, add them at this stage.

Mix Wet Ingredients:

In a separate bowl, melt the butter or add the olive oil. Stir in the milk and egg (if using). Mix well.

Form the Dough:

Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry mixture. Stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too dry, add a little more milk, one tablespoon at a time, until it reaches the desired consistency.

Shape the Dumplings:

Scoop out spoonfuls of dough and gently shape them into small dumplings using your hands or a spoon.

Cook the Dumplings:

Drop the dumplings into simmering soup, stew, or boiling water. Cover the pot and let the dumplings cook for about 10-12 minutes, or until they are firm and cooked through. Avoid lifting the lid while cooking, as the steam helps the dumplings rise and cook evenly.

Serve:

Once cooked, serve the dumplings warm with your favorite soup or stew.

Tips:

For a savory touch, you can add grated cheese, minced garlic, or other seasonings to the dough.

If you want to make sweet dumplings, omit the herbs and salt, and add a tablespoon of sugar or cinnamon for flavor.

These Oats Dumplings are a hearty and wholesome addition to any meal!
