SOURCE

Ingredients:

100 grams dried shrimp (javla)
1 small onion, finely chopped
1 small tomato, finely chopped
1 green chili, finely chopped
1 tablespoon fresh coriander leaves, chopped
1/2 teaspoon turmeric powder
1/2 teaspoon red chili powder
1 teaspoon lemon juice
Salt to taste
1 tablespoon oil (preferably peanut oil)
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/4 teaspoon asafoetida (hing)
Freshly grated coconut (optional) for garnish

Instructions:

Preparation of Dried Shrimp:

Start by rinsing the dried shrimp (javla) under cold water to remove any excess salt and impurities.

Drain the shrimp and pat them dry with a kitchen towel.

Tempering:

Heat oil in a small pan over medium heat. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter.

Add asafoetida (hing) to the oil and sauté for a few seconds.

Add the turmeric powder and red chili powder, and stir well.

Cooking the Shrimp:

Add the cleaned and dried shrimp to the pan. Stir well to coat the shrimp with the tempered spices.

Cook the shrimp for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally until they are slightly crispy. Remove from heat and let them cool.

Mixing the Salad:

In a mixing bowl, combine the finely chopped onion, tomato, green chili, and coriander leaves.

Add the cooked dried shrimp to the bowl and mix well.

Adding Lemon and Seasoning:

Squeeze fresh lemon juice over the salad and mix well.

Taste the salad and add salt if needed, keeping in mind that the dried shrimp might already be salty.

Garnishing:

If you like, you can garnish the salad with freshly grated coconut for added flavor and texture.

Serving:

Serve the Javla Koshimbir as a side dish with chapati, bhakri, or steamed rice. It can also be enjoyed as a flavorful snack.

Conclusion:

Javla Koshimbir is a delightful combination of dried shrimp and fresh vegetables, making it a unique and flavorful addition to any meal. This salad is easy to prepare and offers a burst of flavors with each bite. Whether you’re a fan of seafood or looking to try something new, Javla Koshimbir is sure to impress with its traditional taste and aromatic spices.
