Salted Yogurt Cooler

Chilled Savory Yogurt Drink

Servings: 4 glasses
Preparation: 5 minutes
Difficulty: Easy
Best served: Very cold

Ingredients

  • 2 cups plain full-fat yogurt
  • 2½ cups ice-cold water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried mint
  • 4–6 fresh mint leaves
  • 4–6 ice cubes
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin powder, optional
  • 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice, optional

1. Prepare the Yogurt

Place the yogurt in a blender.

Blend or whisk for 15–20 seconds until completely smooth.

If the yogurt is very thick, add about ½ cup of the cold water and blend again.

2. Add the Water

Gradually add the remaining cold water while blending at low speed.

Continue for about 15 seconds.

The mixture should become thin, smooth and lightly foamy.

3. Season

Add:

  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried mint
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin powder, if using
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice, if using

Blend for another 10 seconds.

Taste and adjust the salt.

The drink should taste refreshing and savory rather than strongly salty.

4. Chill

Add the ice cubes and blend briefly, or refrigerate the drink for 20–30 minutes.

For the best texture, chill the drink thoroughly before serving.

Serving

Pour the salted yogurt cooler into tall chilled glasses.

Garnish with:

  • Fresh mint leaves
  • A tiny pinch of dried mint
  • A light dusting of roasted cumin, optional

Serve immediately.

Extra-Foamy Version

For a restaurant-style presentation, use very cold yogurt and water.

Blend:

  • 2 cups yogurt
  • 2½ cups ice-cold water
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon dried mint

on high for 20–30 seconds.

The surface should develop a thick layer of fine foam.

Pour carefully into chilled glasses without disturbing the foam.

Cucumber Salted Yogurt Cooler

For an especially refreshing summer version, add:

  • ½ small cucumber
  • 4–5 fresh mint leaves
  • ¼ teaspoon roasted cumin

Blend everything with the basic recipe until smooth.

The cucumber adds freshness while the mint gives the drink a clean herbal aroma.

Flavor Profile

A good salted yogurt cooler should be:

Cold → Creamy → Tangy → Lightly salty → Refreshingly minty

It should be much thinner than ordinary yogurt and should pour easily from the glass.

Important Tips

Use plain yogurt

Do not use sweetened or flavored yogurt.

Keep everything cold

Cold yogurt and ice-cold water produce the most refreshing drink.

Don't over-season

The yogurt's natural tang should remain noticeable.

Adjust the consistency

For a thicker drink, use slightly less water. For a lighter cooler, add another ½ cup water.

Serve fresh

The drink is best immediately after blending, when the foam is still present.

Storage

Keep covered and refrigerated for up to 1 day. Stir or shake well before serving because the yogurt may separate slightly.
