Ingredients:

For Idlis:

2 cups idli batter (fermented)
1/2 teaspoon mustard seeds
1/2 teaspoon urad dal (black gram)
1/2 teaspoon chana dal (split chickpeas)
1 tablespoon oil
Salt to taste

For Chinese-Style Chilli Sauce:

2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon tomato ketchup
1 tablespoon red chilli sauce
1 tablespoon vinegar
1 teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon oil
1 tablespoon finely chopped garlic
1 tablespoon finely chopped ginger
1 cup mixed vegetables (bell peppers, onions, and carrots), thinly sliced
Salt and pepper to taste
Spring onions for garnish


Instructions:

Prepare the Idlis: 

a. Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Allow them to splutter. 
b. Add this tempering to the idli batter and mix well. Add salt to taste. 
c. Grease the idli moulds and pour the batter into each mould. 
d. Steam the idlis for 10-12 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean. Once done, let them cool.


Make the Chinese-Style Chilli Sauce: 

a. In a bowl, mix soy sauce, tomato ketchup, red chilli sauce, vinegar, and sugar. Set aside. 
b. Heat oil in a pan, add chopped garlic and ginger. Sauté until aromatic. 
c. Add the mixed vegetables and stir-fry until they are slightly tender but still crisp. d. Pour the sauce mixture over the vegetables, toss well, and cook for a few more minutes. e. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.


Assemble the Dish: 

a. Cut the cooled idlis into bite-sized pieces. 
b. Gently toss the idli pieces into the Chinese-style chilli sauce until well coated. 
c. Garnish with chopped spring onions.
